A Local Hero
Do you remember the heartwarming story of a while back of an Iraqi little girl suffering from spina bifida who was discovered by U.S. troops and flown to the US for surgery? It turns out that the soldier who found the girl is from my hometown.
Like so many other young men and women from rural communities across the U.S., he joined the service for a job, for money for school, for love of his country and a sense of doing something important.
Thankfully he will carry with him a sense of pride at having helped a little girl lead a better life. What do the other American soldiers carry home with them?
