Who Will Be Set Free?

I have been contemplating of late the notion of truth...to ourselves, to our friends, what we owe to those whose lives we touch. Finding truths to believe in.

President Bush believes that he alone defines truth. He continues to insist that he alone decides what truth the Executive Branch owes to the others. He continues to insists that he owes it to no one to present evidence against those people the U.S. holds in custody, indefinitely, without trial, without any avenue to present the truth.

He now has added a new twist to his repetoire: he is denying that he ever made a link between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda or Iraq or 9/11. See the letter above. When exactly is he telling the truth: then or now?

My contempt for this administration grows commensurate with the deep sadness I feel for the men and women and children who will suffer the wounds of this war for the rest of their lives.
